In Focus: Photographer Wing Shya

Wing Shya is a Hong Kong based photographer & film director. Born in 1964 he started his professional career as a graphic designer after studying at the Emily Carr institute of Arts & Design in Canada.

Best known for his long standing relationship as on set photographer for legendary film director Wong Kar Wai (Mood for Love, 2046, Happy Together), he shoots for clients including ID, French Vogue, Louis Vitton & Nike.

Wing has directed a number of music videos, commercials and his own short film “Hot Summer Days”.

His work has a cinematic quality like no other photographer I have seen, the colours, tone and narrative of his images feel like feature films in themselves, granted some are stills from films, but there is a sense of cinematic achievement in his images that are only normally present on screen.
